Katchafire & Mat McHugh Brazilian Tour!

Katchafire & Mat McHugh Brazilian Tour!

This Halloween, New Zealand’s Katchafire will be traveling eastward across the Pacific Ocean along with Mat McHugh of Australia to kick off their Brazil Tour 2013. The tour will begin on Halloween night and spans across the east side of Brazil for a total of 8 dates.

Both artists are no strangers to playing shows on the big stage in South America. According to Mat, “I first met the guys at a show The Beautiful Girls played with them in Brazil a couple of years back. I was super sick at the time so I’m not sure what their impressions of me were! I’m looking forward to doing a bunch of shows together. They’re a great band.”

Mat also went on to explain how he has become familiarized with the South American continent. “I’ve been to Brazil maybe 10 times before. The Beautiful Girls had great success there and I have toured under my own name several times. The last time I was there we toured with Citizen Cope and had an amazing time. Brazil is one of my favorite places on Earth. I’m a big fan of Latin culture.”

As for Katchafire, formed in 2000, this will be their 3rd time touring Brazil in 3 years. Known as the “Hardest-working band in New Zealand,” naturally, the band is coming off a summer full of playing shows across the globe. In April, they began their most recent journey by touring the United States, Europe and the UK. Following their tour with Mat McHugh, Katchafire will return to New Zealand on a string of dates with fellow NZ band, Kora.

Courtesy of VP Records, the band also released a 16-track greatest hits album, “Best So Far,” in May right before playing at the 4th annual California Roots Music and Arts Festival! Originally known as a Bob Marley cover band, Katchafire has certainly earned much respect from music lovers across the world.

Not too far away, Sydney, Australia’s Mat McHugh is also keeping busy. He is currently at work on a debut album with his new lineup, The Seperatista Soundsystem. Through Silverback Management, Mat plans to get back to the United States after the record is finished and show fans the new material.

In regards to his new band, he told The Pier, “We’re running an old MPC on stage with a full horn section and percussion. It’s something that’s pretty new an exciting for me and we have some good songs already recorded. If you liked The Beautiful Girls you’ll enjoy it.”

Fans of both artists have much to look forward to with Katchafire working on a highly anticipated 5th studio album and Mat working with The Seperatista Soundsystem. For our music lovers in South America, the Brazil Tour 2013 is one show not to miss!
