I agree.

I guess when the whole thing kicked off, i was supportive and really excited of the whole project in giving Bud & Eric an opportunity to tour and play a lot of classic sublime songs live. It was also an opportunity for me to see 2/3rds of the group perform some timeless songs live and i enjoyed seeing it first hand, no question.

But now that the album has been out for a few months, i'm actually more anxious to see Rome breakout solo and do more stuff on par with what he did with that Amy Winehouse cover. There's no question he'll be a successful solo artist, but i think its time to get away from the sublime umbrella. I guess in hindsight it would have made more sense for them to tour as Sublime with Rome to spread Sublime's authentic sound around the world, but not put out an original album under the title. My opinion has been swayed with time.

But since the album has been out, even the 2-3 songs i enjoyed off the bat, have escaped me and i been listening to a TON of LBDAS and it just makes me miss that authentic Long Beach sound that Bud & Eric helped create 20 years ago with their long beach neighborhood influence apparent in their music with LBDAS. It was definitely missing in the SWR album.

I agree and that was the point I was trying to make. LBDA was legit. It still had that era or feel of sublime to it, whereas SWR has always seemed more of a tribute or I dont know. Just something different about it. I saw LBDA maybe 6 or 7 times (which is a lot for someone that was living in the midwest at the time) The whole SWR thing? I just didnt get that same feeling from it.

I think Rome needs to go his own road. Its only a matter of time before he was going to have to.

I went to the source about that TMZ story. Sounds like Bud is going to be with Eric and Rome for the final 3 shows of this "tour". After that, the future of SWR and their lineup is up the air.

How long before Rome breaks off to go solo? and If bud were to leave the group after this years shows, where does that put them moving forward? It'd no long be "SUBLIME" with Rome. I know Matty of Dirty Heads has filled in on drums in the past and filling is fine, but to continue on and move forward without 2/3 of the initial line up really loses its punch.

(unless of course you got Marshall Goodman to play drums).

I am going to probably get shit for saying this, but I think its true somewhat. Bud and Eric are great musicians in their own right, but without Brad's songwriting no one would know who they were outside of Long Beach. I say that as a bass player myself and Eric as a complete idol. Its nothing against them at all, but what makes sublime who they were was Brad. How many times was another drummer playing with sublime and it didnt skip a beat? (no pun intended) Eric might be a little harder to argue because his bass lines were very intrical to sublimes sound.

So when it comes to SWR....does anyone really care that much if they broke up? sublime ceased to exist once Brad died anything else after, the name has been used for marketing. Why does SWR even have to be called that if they are going to put out original albums? Its why I think LBDA holds more cred. They held their own weight not only playing sublime songs, but also writing originals that "felt" like sublime. didnt sound like they were trying to re-write the self titled album, but felt like they were truly the legacy living on. Just my 2 cents.

I could care less if they broke up. Yours Truly sounds like an unreleased Sugar Ray album or something. The whole name controversy was the dumbest thing ive ever heard. Just use a new name, seriously. They all have talent and if they would have used a new name I think their credibility goes way up. Rome would do way better as a solo artist in my opinion, I think that suits him better, however I don't blame him for taking the SWR gig(Its every kids dream job). But for real, the whole fight for the Sublime name seemed childish to me. If they put as much work into the music as they were fighting for a name so they can put more seats in the audience, they'd probably have a lot more respect from everyone. On a side note, the only people I've seen who have liked Yours Truly are either middle or high schoolers who think that it's cool to like Sublime cause reggae is the hip thing now, or people who listen casually to reggae and only know the most popular i.e. slightly stoopid and pepper - and that is the extent of their reggae knowledge. LBDAS is an incredible band and they did it without piggybacking on a legendary name. Wish they would come back.

Putting out an original album under the sublime name was pretty classless. If youre going to tour and play songs from the original Sublime, that's cool, but strictly be a live band.

I'll admit that a couple of the songs off Yours Truly sound good to me (ex. Spun, Dynamite) but on the whole, I think it should have never come out. Sublime was, they no longer are. It's fine to keep Sublime-with-Brad's legacy alive (good music never dies) but for Rome and co. to try to start a new chapter in the best-seller that is Sublime, that's a huge mistake.

Feel free to keep playing shows and whatnot to honor the true Sublime (and Brad), but I wouldn't be saddened to see Sublime with Rome disband or at least change their name/lineup. And Rome has got a great voice, I agree with everyone here that he'd thrive solo.

And you could feel the electricity in the crowd for just being able to hear one of the best rhythm sections of all time thumping from the loud speakers.

Everyone was singing along to every word and it felt like the audience was filling in the hole left by Brad's absence. Rome didn't have to live up to Brad, just lead the crowd in a giant sing along to his memory and songs.

That felt very powerful.

But by the 2nd and 3rd times around it seemed to me that Rome was getting almost too comfortable. He started adopting Brads mannerisms and acting the "Brad part". It was kind of unsettling.

Then when the album came out, the nail was in the coffin. The whole vibe of the record was a total 'we need a cd to keep touring' type of thing.

With all the veterans from the scene around, it seems like there was little guidance for Rome. All the songs sound like continuations of the other. The lyrical themes could be much more defined and have a focus from song to song. The whole thing just sounds like a rambling chronicle of a kid who tells his girlfriend to suck off and then fuck off after he gets famous.

I really think it's about time to say the jig is up.

Get back to the authentic sounds of LBDA and the cats who have the experience to hang with legends.
