Slightly Stoopid Top of the World

Discussion of recent features at The Pier

I must have killer weed, or y'all Stoopid.... Shit sounds ridiculous to me! Sounds like they know how to incorporate the horns on this one. Maybe I'm falling in love with the 'preview' but i'm pumped for this guest packed, 21 song, laid back, bluesy, jazzy, jam, dub disc!

Previews sound great. Dunno why everyone is bashing on the horn section, they add such great depth to the music.
I would say right now that Stoopid is maybe the only band under the reggae rock umbrella that is taking their sound someplace totally unique and uncharted. I'm very excited for this album and the TRI DVD, (c'mon fellas)

What's with people talking down on Chronchitis? Every SS album has been FIRE. Chronchitis is one of my faves too. I love their horn section and The Otherside with Guru is a great jam with more hip hop stylee. People stop hatin SS always makes a great album

I don't know that their hating... Just good ole constructive criticism. I would think that as a whole (among Stoopidheads) Chronchitis is an unpopular album in comparison to their body of work. Some weak tracks, some great tracks... I love Ocean, Digital and We don't start all over... But Blood of my Blood, Mind on your Music and Nobody knows make me cringe....

I did not feel as if the horns were a natural fit on that album. I DO feel it with this album though... Guess time will tell.

Damn I loved Nobody Knows, such a mellow jam. I also dug Baby I Like It, 2AM, and Hold on to the one. Definitely not my favorite album but did have some sick cuts. When they played Baby I Like It live on the Summer Haze tour a while back with G. Love it was insane! one of my favorite live moments of all time.

Although I may be a little biased since G. Love and special sauce is my favorite band of all time, none the less it was a priceless moment.

They also have pre-orders up on their website, no packages I'm really crazy about, the long board is cool but I'm kinda broke at the minute and not really a fan of sector 9, but cool collectors item to throw up on a wall or something. Also no vinyl? Kinda surprised about that, well at least not yet. Previews have grown on me and really looking forward to chillin out to this record, wish it had came out sometime this month though. Free download of Don't Stop is dope too, Kyle just gets better and better.

Yeah, love the 'God Of Thunder' style bassline for sure... For those of you familiar with that nickname.

The more I hear, the more I think this is gonna be very 'Jam' style... little jazzy, some ska, lil dub (Deal with Rhythm has a killer 10 ft. Ganja sound), cool to see that they have for the most part stayed true to there original sound mostly overall. It's funny how Paul and Ian have became pretty much full time members. I think I'm cool with that. Does it sound too busy to anyone? I'll have to save that judgment for after I hear it as a whole.

Also, I think I might know what some people don't like about the horns... Its almost like in some songs (maybe too many?) they almost just use the horns as the chorus (See 2AM and Don't Stop) I'm guessing this cd wont be all that through out. I really can't wait to hear this from start to finish so I can officially dissect it... I do believe it has potential to be epic!

I think it's going pick up where Chronic left off, but they've had a few years to get "this" sound down I think. This one seem more like THIS is a jam song, THIS is a reggae song, THIS is a jazz song and so on. At least from the samples I'll say this sounds like a much more solid record where Chronic was just sort of everything mashed together in a sense. Maybe that only makes sense to me?

I do miss the old says with just the 3 or 4 of them, I do think at points it gets "too busy", I haven't enjoyed them live as much as I used to either. My view on the horns is always they are just out of place, or put in spots just to put them in. I love reggae tracks with horns, I just don't think they add them very well to their music. I'm sure it could work, but I've never been impressed. I'm still holding out though, and will give it a fair shot, I expecting to like only Kyles songs, but if there's also a few miles songs or jam songs I like it will be a happy surprise.

I must be the only one who prefers Miles songs... Nothing to do with the music for me, I just like Miles voice more. A major part of the song to me is the lyrics, and I just can't understand most of Kyle's words.
