New dirty heads jam...

Discussion of recent features at The Pier

Saw a new song of theirs on YouTube - Spread too Thin. Sounds like Lay Me Down part 2, catchy but very poppy too. Been a fan of these guys since day 1, I hope we get some tunes on the new album that are reminisint of the band's earlier and more original work. Dirty reggae with dirty rhymes!

Just checked it out, the song's okay but it definitely is Lay Me Down part 2 in certain parts of the song.

Well once bands have a hit, there's usually a lot of pressure to re-create the hit again.

Even in the lyrics "I'm spread way too thin, tell me why you're rushin" kind of seem to elude to that idea too.

I hate to see when bands get successful and then they start writing about the success, the life, ect.

It always ends bad because the song themes start chasing their own tail.

Heard the new studio version of the song and it is just so average. Shows no sign of the band evolving at all or taking any kind of risk. Excitement level for this album just dropped.

While I won't lower my expectations for the album after hearing this song, I'm definitely not standing in line for it, if that makes any sense.

I guess I'm in the minority for this one... I LIKE IT! Not in love with it. If you're feeling this is "Lay Me Down Pt. 2"... is it because of that DH style dancehall beat in the chorus again? That's been pretty standard, and a big draw for me originally... "Antelope" & "Rub A Dub Style", both had a grip of dancehall beats with their HB style.

Lyrically, the song is not a love song like Lay Me Down, it's almost like a "step the eff off and give me a min. to clear my throat!" And then Duddy and J unload on 'em. Yet, they added a Pop-esque touch to it with an organ or something on the keys, but it really only enhances the song, at least from my perspective. Percussions are similar, but they are properly highlighted and situated in the song. As for the chorus, weren't you already humming it or singing it by the time the song ended?

It certainly isn't "Check The Level"/"Hip Hop Misfits", but they said they refined their sound. If their biggest "hit song" ever was Part 1 w/ Lay Me Down, wouldn't you opt for Part 2, as well? Just to try and see what happens?

The rappers with dirty rhymes contain pornographic and some dirty lyrics in all raps of their albums. My friend had also list of some albums of rappers with dirty rhymes.

Rappers with Dirty Rhymes? No clue what your talking about Hall.

I agree, the new single isn't my favorite DH song, but they have a whole new album coming out. I'm sure the single was chosen by Kroq as the song they wanted to share with their outlet. If thats as poppy as it gets then i'm okay with that. But i appreciate the musicianship t

I'm looking forward to this album more than any other release this year. Check out what they did with Daryl Hall of Hall & Oats at Darly's House. They play a bunch of new songs. Cool seeing them collaborate. Reminds me of the early Stoopid days of them networking with other musicians & collaborating. DH has a style of their own for sure:

You guys see the video on the Pier homepage of them performing "Cabin By The Sea"? It's pretty cool, much more enjoyable than "Spread Too Thin" for me.

I don't know, I kind of liked Spread Too Thin, thought it was a nice summer jam. Cabin by the Sea made me cringe a little. The lyrics were so corny and I just couldn't get over it.

See, I thought the same thing about "Spread Too Thin" ironically enough. I saw a live video on youtube of them playing another new song "Hipster", which I think is way better than any of these other new songs I've heard of theirs.

Chevontez, I agree. I heard Spread Too Thin a couple of times now and I still don't care for it. johnnycosmic nailed it on probably whats behind how that song came about.
I dug Cabin by the Sea, but, then again watching them jam it live I'm sure helped out a lot. I've seen that show before on Saturday afternoons, it'll be crazy to one day catch DH on there while channel surfing.
I wish good luck to the guys, looking forward to some new tunes.

Rappers with Dirty Rhymes

Seems like a wasteful exercise. Anyway I took quick a look at your list, how could you leave off Blowfly? He invented dirty rhymes. There is a whole bunch of dancehall artists you could also add to your list.

Why did Rome have to come in and ruin this song?

Yes this is much better than Spread Too Thin. Rastrent you said you didn't like Rome's part, but I thought it was pretty cool. And I'm actually not a huge fan of Rome at all and think he plays it safe way too often, but his verse in "Mongo Push" is pretty cool for him.
