Street Pharmacy – “Settled Down”
StreetPharmacy
“Settled Down” Background:
Street Pharmacy has a sound that blurs the lines between progressive and nostalgic – almost reminiscent of that late 90’s to early 2000’s style of Pop-Punk-Hip Hop and of course, Reggae. You’ll a hear a ton of that in their new album Pharmanomics as well as track 2 with “Settled Down”. It starts out feeling upbeat with a nice reggae groove, but the song evolves with a fun, poppy & almost melodic hook, that feels like early 2000’s pop-punk. But then there’s some minor DJ scratching and fun guitar plucking over the groove that enable a fun listen. It reminds me of something I haven’t heard in awhile, but new enough to draw off its direct familiarity. It’s well done vocally & lyrcially – its upbeat, poppy & fun. All reasons I chose this song for Leak of the Week and the group was gracious enough to send it over on such short notice.

I spoke with lead vocalist & guitarist, Ryan Guay of the group and he told me the song is “most emblematic of Street Pharmacy’s unique musical concoction.” Ryan describes the story of the song as “letting ‘the one’ slip through your fingers because you’re busy chasing your dream of being a touring rock-star. Of all the songs that I wrote for this album, I think this one speaks the most to my age group. The song is kind of sad because you never get the girl and that girl will never come around again, at least for the character in the song.”

Of the 12 songs on the album, Ryan admitted that “Settled Down” was his favorite – See if you enjoy it by downloading it for FREE on our homepage before 2/1/15. You can pick up the album, Pharmanomics, on iTunes by clicking HERE!

Street Pharmacy Background:
From Welland, Ontario, Street Pharmacy is a now three-piece reggae-rock group consisting of Ryan Guay (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Jesse Robitaille (Bass), and Isaac Thompson (Drums). Since their formation in 2006, the band has released six full-length albums and has been a mainstay in Canada’s independent scene. The band gained more attention after being featured on and named co-winners of the hit Canadian reality show disBAND, which introduced their music to new fans and industry players, including Adam Tune (Keys N Krates), Ian Blackwood (The Artist Life, Jersey), James Robertson (Skye Sweetnam, Down With Webster), Will Marr and John Doherty (illScarlett, Trouble & Daughter), who all had a hand in producing Phamonomics and it’s accompanying EP of the same name.
