Brett Wilson’s cover of Sublime’s “Don’t Push” Background:

“It has so many dope parts, rapid fire vocals and break downs and always gets the crowd singing along… which is the best feeling in the world,” is what Roots of Creation front-man Brett Wilson told The Pier when discussing his cover of Sublime’s “Don’t Push.”

The original song was made popular from the 1992 release of Sublime’s debut album with 40oz to Freedom. “I’ll never forget the moment I bought 40oz to Freedom on cassette tape and poppin’ it for the first time,” Brett continues. “All of my favorite types of music mixed together into one band with so much soul. ‘Don’t Push’ immediately hit me hard from the opening riff, raw growly vocals mixed with smooth harmonies, to the dancehall breakdown.”

Brett covered the song acoustic for his Get Ready! Live In Columbus record that was recorded during Wilson’s opening performance for Slightly Stoopid in front of a sold out crowd at Newport Music Hall in Columbus, OH. The set includes a number of original tracks, as well as an eclectic mix of covers and medleys. Brett Wilson handles everything from “Sugaree” by the Grateful Dead to R. Kelly’s “Ignition (remix).”

The live album was recorded and mastered by Slightly Stoopid’s monitor engineer Joshua Driscoll, with additional mastering completed by Jay Frigoletto.

In addition to dropping this live in Columbus opening for Slightly Stoopid. Two other memorable performances of this track include – DiPiazza’s in long beach, CA with Fortunate Youth acoustic and friends and Wormtown Music Festival on the anniversary of Brad’s death this year.

Brett Wilson Background:

Brett Wilson is a seriously skilled guitarist that has no problem ripping solos on electric or breaking it down with the acoustic. Based out of New Hampshire, Wilson’s band Roots of Creation is a festival favorite, beloved by reggae and jam fans alike. Their live shows are a spectacle, featuring everything from classic roots reggae to dubstep and hard rock. On April 22nd, 2016 RoC released Livin Free, which debuted No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae chart and No.1 on the Relix/Jambands.com Radio chart.

“A little over 4 years ago when my daughter was born I started playing little solo acoustic shows to help pay the bills, test out new material, and bust out cover songs RoC doesn’t play live. Fans started catching on, and I eventually was getting invited to perform as a support act with a lot of my friends like Slightly Stoopid, Ziggy Marley and Rusted Root. It has helped RoC’s fan base grow and allowed me to have a fun, creative outlet.” – Brett Wilson
