On November 11th, 2016, UK-based dub rockers Gentleman’s Dub Club (GDC) will release a remix EP of their 2015 album The Big Smoke. The EP, titled The Big Smoke (Remixed), is set for a digital-only release via Easy Star Records.
Gentleman’s Dub Club formed in Leeds, England back in 2006. Fusing elements of dub, ska, and roots reggae, the 9-piece band has earned their place among the UK’s top reggae-centric acts. GDC has put out 2 highly acclaimed albums in FOURtyFOUR (2013) and The Big Smoke (2015), as well as a pair of EPs. They’re also regulars at Europe’s biggest music festivals, having performed at Glastonbury, Boomtown Fair, Outlook Festival and others.
To help with the 7-track remix EP, GDC turned to renowned producers such as Prince Fatty (Lily Allen, Dub Syndicate, The Skints, Hollie Cook), DJ Madd, Chief Rockas, and ex-GDC member Eddie Ranking. Each producer put their own fresh spin on the band’s songs.
GDC bassist Toby Davies says, “We have met so many talented producers and remixers along the way and we wanted to put a spotlight on them and what they could do with our tunes. For us the foundation of remixing is in Dub, so it seemed like a very appropriate way of celebrating the songs on The Big Smoke.”
GDC have coupled their new release with tour dates in the UK and France to close out the year. In February, they return to the UK for another series of shows. Make sure to check out The Big Smoke (Remixed) on November 11th!
