Lila Iké’s first musical reveal of 2022 comes in teh form of “True Love” that was released on March 31st via In.Digg.Nation Collective/RCA Records. As Iké describes it, the song is a love letter to herself.
“True Love” was produced by Natural High Music with the accompany video being directed by Ayana Riviére, with the song being a reminder to choose love, even through the darkest times.
Lila explains the songs evolution and meaning: “True Love is a song that I freestyled almost a year ago. At the time I was in a very emotional space and feeling a bit low in energy due to everything happening with the pandemic. I wanted to find a way to turn what I was feeling into a piece that would give others, who may be feeling the same, some hope. The most beautiful thing about this song is that a year later, I’m realizing this song was a personal love letter to my future self on healing and dealing with everything I’m experiencing at the moment. I hope it reaches everyone who needs this energy right now and that it gives them as much light as it gives me.”
Lila dropped her debut EP, The ExPerience, which contained 7 songs, on May 18th, 2020 at the height of the pandemic. “True Love” is her first official release of 2022 as rumors swirl shes preparing for her debut album within the year ahead as her signature fusion of contemporary reggae, soul, hip-hop and dancehall continues to spread. The Manchester, Jamaica based songstress is well on her way to making waves if her early body of work, including “True Love” is any indication. We’re ready for the full length album!
