Tarrus Riley – “Love Situation/123 I Love You” [Acoustic]
“123 I Love You” Background
Released on February 4th, Tarrus Riley’s new album Love Situation is exactly how it sounds as your good ol’ fashioned Lovers Reggae album with 17 total tracks. Produced by Dean Fraser for Cannon Productions and assisted by talents such as Shane C. Brown of Juke Boxx Productions, as well as Mitchum Khan Chin and Jordan McClure, the record was mixed by Shane C. Brown along with Romel Marshall and mastering was done by Grammy Award winning engineer Michael Fuller.
Here’s what Tarrus Riley had to say about the song “123 I Love You”: “The track is originally from BB Seaton and the Gaylads’ hit song “ABC” from the late 60’s produced by the grand uncle of my manager Duke Reid. ‘123’ was written by myself and Dean Fraser and produced by Dean, its a special song to me because it’s about expressing opening love to someone that a lot of people find hard to do.”

Tarrus Riley: The Shoot
The Pier’s Live Acoustic Series videos are not possible without Premiere Director, Tage Plantell & Associate Producer, Kit Chalberg. Thanks to them, The Pier has had the opportunity to premiere growing list of bands that include Cas Haley, The Green, Dirty Heads, Iration and now Tarrus Riley.
Here’s what Kit had to say about shooting Tarrus Riley:
“The video was shot on location at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver, CO on February 21, 2014. What started out as a relatively “easy” shoot concept became increasingly complex when we learned that Riley and his entire eight piece band, “The Blak Soil Band,” would be performing the song. This was both a unique and complex situation. The Live Acoustic Series is designed for smaller, more intimate settings and our technical designs match this concept. In other words, micing up eight players, including four background singers wasn’t part of the plan! But, with help from the boys from Tatanka, who lent us mic stands, and our killer sound team led by Hill Baker, we pulled it off.
“After setting the lights, cameras, mics and stools we asked Riley’s manager to find our front man. In true (reggae) rock star fashion, Riley strolled in with his entourage wearing dark glasses and a long gold chain. The only things missing were smoke machines, a theme song sung by Isaac Hayes and a fur coat. Nonetheless, Riley sat down, the band kicked into the song and the rest is reggae-rock history.”
