Mykal Rose’s New Record – ‘Rasta State’

On August 5th, 2016, iconic reggae vocalist Mykal Rose released his latest solo album Rasta State on VP Records. The 15-track album features Rose’s signature vocals over roots rhythms provided by legendary producer King Jammy. In addition to his new album, Mykal Rose is planning a tour through California this November.

For over 40 years Mykal Rose has been recording music, creating some of reggae’s all-time greatest hits along the way. As a former lead singer in the ground breaking group Black Uhuru, Rose wrote reggae staples like “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner?” and “Shine Eye Gal.” Rose and Black Uhuru also won the first-ever awarded Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 1985 for the band’s classic album, Anthem. Mykal Rose left Black Uhuru shortly after, but has since gone on to perform as a solo artist, recording several well-received albums and laying down countless vocals as a featured artist. Rose has collaborated on tracks with everyone from Shabba Ranks and Damian Marley, to Easy Star All-Stars and Tribal Seeds.

A prolific songwriter with decades of experience, Mykal Rose still takes the stage with youthful passion. Rose is fresh off of a European summer tour, which was highlighted by more than a dozen festivals, including a headlining performance at the Rototom Sunsplash festival in Spain.

More details will be revealed in the coming weeks about Mykal Rose’s plans to hit California later this fall. The Pier will also be connecting with Mykal Rose for an exclusive interview, so be sure to check back for our in-depth discussion with one of reggae’s all-time greats.
