Chico, CA’s Mystic Roots is celebrating the release of their new single, “Summer Festival”. Produced by E.N Young of Tribal Seeds at his Imperial Sound Recording Studio, the group has also released a music video for the new single…
This is Mystic Roots first release since their 2013 double-album Camp Fire and is the first single off their upcoming EP. It’s safe to say the new track is influenced by the Summer Festival season as Mystic Roots vocalist, Katherine Ramirez tells The Pier: “Ever since I first started attending Reggae Festivals, I have created some of my most favorite memories! Just this past year I had a melody idea in my head, and the words ‘Summer Festival’ fit that melody perfectly.”
Kat wrote the song between January-February 2014 while on tour with Tribal Seeds, thinking about the upcoming festival season. The band wrote & arranged the music in March with the mindset of an April release ahead of Memorial Day weekend 2014 during the Cali-Roots Festival. The single officially released August 12th and front-man Cootdog explains that extra time allowed for the song to develop: “I actually wrote my verse AT Cali Roots while listening to and watching Rebelution rock the main stage Saturday night. I wrote the lyrics down in my phone.”
Kat continues, “We were surprised that to our knowledge there has yet to be a song capturing the vibe and feeling of that experience: camping, music performance all day and night, reuniting with friends you only see at the fests, etc.”
Mystic Roots has been performing their blend of Pop, Hip-Hop & Reggae for 18 years! The group formed in 1996 in Chico, CA & later moved to Oceanside, CA in 2002. They released their debut album, Constant Struggle in 1999 which produced their fan favorite, “Pass the Marijuana”. The group later agreed to join Pato Banton as his backing band before later moving back to Chico, CA in 2010 to further pursue their own sound.
In addition to the new song single, they have also released a music video to be paired with the song, produced by Joe Wilson of Bulldog Media. The video is just over 7 minutes, taking inspiration from the movie Officespace as a prelude into the paradise that is the Summer Festival season.
