Venice Beach Dub Club Returns With Boundary-Pushing New Album ‘Time Marches On’

With the release of their highly-anticipated second album, Venice Beach Dub Club feels like a band on the verge of stardom.

Formed in 2016 by singer-songwriter Seth Caro, the group emerged from humble beginnings. What began as casual jam seasons on a rooftop in Venice Beach quickly evolved into something more. Caro, who previously found success in the indie rock world, was drawn to reggae’s pure expression. Teaming with producer/guitarist Gary “Big G” Larason and bassist Benji Hamlin, the trio developed a distinctive, genre-blending style.

The band started releasing singles in 2018, with a debut full-length in 2020. Listeners gravitated towards the group, leading to sold-out shows and a continually growing fanbase. 2022 saw the release of “Purebloods,” a single that proved as controversial as it was undeniably catchy. Love them or hate them, Venice Beach Dub Club was not going to be ignored. Now, with their sophomore release VBDC II: Time Marches On, Venice Beach Dub Club is ready for the next evolution.

“This isn’t just an album—it’s a reflection of personal growth, hard truths, and creative freedom,” Caro explains. “We didn’t set out to chase a trend or sound like anyone else. These songs came from taking time to think, to question, to evolve.”

Time Marches On features an impressive lineup of guest artists, including Marlon Asher, Keith Murray, Simpkin Project, Dizzy Dustin, Chicano Rock and Konker Spliff. Still, beyond the big names, it’s the songwriting that shines brightest.

“Stay Cool” offers an earworm chorus built upon an intoxicating dancehall beat, while “Find Out” infuses VBDC’s sound with hints of hip-hop, rock and jazz. Meanwhile, title track “Time Marches On” reflects Caro’s introspective nature, pondering how each decision one makes can affect future events throughout a lifetime.

The result is an album that runs the gamut of human emotion. Songs on Time Marches On can soundtrack a summer house party, or be listened to alone during quiet moments of reflection. By pushing themselves creatively, while remaining unwaveringly honest, Venice Beach Dub Club have created an album their fans will find instantly relatable.

“Lyrics matter. Substance matters,” Caro explains. “We want every song to stand alone and still say something real.”

VBDC II: Time Marches On  is out now.
