Recorded on Oahu at Sea Major Seven Studios and on her home island of Maui, Anuhea presents Shoulders, her new 6 track EP that is now scheduled to be released on Friday, February 5th!
As mentioned inside our 2016 Most Anticipated Albums feature, Anuhea describes the EP as a transitional piece that represents her as a female artist, sharing stories from her past, present and future.
When we spoke with Anuhea about Shoulders she disclosed some of the meaning behind the songs and how they serve a purpose on her album. “I wrote about my past relationships (Boy A or Boy B), my love for Hawai’i (‘Island Inside Me’), and an anthem to good FRIENDS around the world (‘Shoulders’). I wrote a super special song for my son ‘Ikena in the song ‘Love Child’, where I talk about how pretty soon he’ll be walking down the isle, holding the rings for his daddy and me… I tried to be really open and true.”
Using this album as a venture to reflect and grow, Anuhea creates one of the songs in a unique style that is absolutely unheard of today. Her story behind the making of “Island Inside Me” is a superb example of who she is as an artist while demonstrating loyalty and love to her fans.
“I co-wrote my song ‘Island Inside Me’ with a fan I met through my Kickstarter Campaign,” Anuhea explained. “He had never wrote a song in his life, but we worked together via Skype to write a story about a person coming to Hawai’i for the first time and falling in love with the islands (of course) but then having to go home to the mainland. But the island would forever be in his heart. It was so rad to take the lyrical ideas he had, and help structure them into melodies and chords, and finally into an island jam. He was stoked too!”

Anuhea will not be wasting anytime after the release of Shoulders, as she starts her headlining west coast Love Child Tour with Through the Roots from March 3rd to the 20th. Following the west coast she will make a run through the east coast in April & May.
The next big show is scheduled at the end of this month in Las Vegas with Iration!
