VP Records will salute the late great Dennis Brown with a double-disc tribute album, titled We Remember Dennis Brown. The compilation features a selection of The Crown Prince of Reggae’s greatest hits, covered by some of today’s most eminent musicians in reggae and R&B. We Remember Dennis Brown is expected to be on shelves in late spring 2016.
Dennis Brown was revered across the globe for his caressing voice, and prolific songwriting. He began his extraordinary recording career as an 11 year old, then went on to release more than 75 albums, influencing both his contemporaries and the subsequent generations of reggae artists. NPR recognized Dennis Brown as one of the 50 greatest voices all time, proving that his lovers rock music transcended well beyond the reggae community.
In anticipation of the upcoming album and in celebration of Dennis Brown’s birthday month (DB would have turned 59 on February 1st), VP Records is leaking one song every Friday during February. Romain Virgo‘s rendition of “Caress Me” and Raging Fyah‘s take on “Milk and Honey” are already available, and covers by Jah9, The Green, and Marsha Ambrosius are on deck for the rest of February.
We’ll have to wait until spring for the following tracks, but We Remember Dennis Brown will also feature tributes from Chronixx, Jah Cure, Gyptian, Freddie McGregor, Jesse Royale, Bushman, and many others. Each song on the compilation has been masterfully re-produced by the renowned Jamaican producer Clive Hunt.
