The Grammy Awards have revealed the 2023 nominees, going head-to-head for the coveted trophies at the 65th annual ceremony
The awards will take place February 5 2023 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and feature a wealth of talent from across all genres.
The votes and in and calculated and the nominees for the 2023 “Best Reggae Album” have emerged as follows:
“The Kalling” Kabaka Pyramid
“Gifted” Koffee
“Scorcha” Sean Paul
“Third Time’s the Charm” Protoje
“Com Fly Wid Mi” Shaggy
The Grammy’s have remained true to authentic Reggae and put emphasis on more of the Dancehall and traditional records released.
While nominations for Sean Paul, Kabaka Pyramid, and Koffee should come as no surprise, the one massive snub from this year’s nominees was Stick Figure’s seventh studio album “Wisdom“.
The album was one of the best albums’s from the past year and debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. “Wisdom” knocked Bob Marley & The Wailers off the top spot after holding the crown for 40 consecutive weeks.
Controversy erupted online at last year’s 64th Grammy Awards when SOJA took home the award for the Best Reggae Album. SOJA beat out five other Jamaican artists to snag the award. Many genre purists took to social media to air their sour grapes, resulting in xenophobic and racist comments directed at the American-based reggae outfit.
