Eli-Mac Unveils Music Video for “My Guy” Her Unique Rendition of The Motown Classic

Reggae sensation Eli-Mac, a proud Filipino native raised in Hawaii, has officially released the music video for her refreshing reinterpretation of The Temptations’ iconic song, “My Girl.”

Directed by Andrew Hall of Gingy Productions, the video brings a playful, vibrant visual to Eli-Mac’s distinctive Island-infused take on this timeless Motown classic.

Behind the Track

Regarding the track, Eli-Mac shared:

“The idea for ‘My Guy’ came about by accident. I was at my good friend Josh Cardinali’s studio—he’s the owner of Stoney Eye Studios in Long Beach, CA. He had produced the track a while ago and always envisioned a female voice singing it. When he played it for me, I said, ‘I can say “My Guy” instead of “My Girl.”‘ I jumped into the vocal booth, laid down the vocals, and when we listened back, we were surprised by how much we loved it! We finished it all in one session. Since Father’s Day was coming up, I thought it would be the perfect time to release it, as the song is called ‘My Guy.'”

She continued:

“I dedicated this song to my dad because he’s always been the best guy in my life, aside from the big guy upstairs. For the cover art, we used an old photo of my dad from his time in Batanes, Philippines. In the picture, he’s smiling—something rare—and holding his spear, getting ready to go spearfishing. That makes this single even more special to me.”

Eli-Mac’s Journey

Eli-Mac’s career began with the release of her hit five-song project, Dubstop EP. Her sound is shaped by influences such as Lauryn Hill, Nas, and Bob Marley. Her breakthrough came when she secured a spot as a Top 10 finalist on Season 3 of American Idol at just 18 years old. Following this, she recorded a version of Bob Marley’s “Guava Jelly,” produced by Stephen Marley at Tuff Gong Studios in Jamaica—a track that earned her Hawaii Music Awards’ “Single of the Year.”

Since then, Eli-Mac has toured extensively across the U.S. and internationally, continually growing her fanbase.
