Major Lazer New Single & Album Date

Major Lazer, the digital-reggae-dancehall project of Grammy nominated DJ/Producer, Diplo, has just released a new single worldwide. For the latest effort, Diplo and UK DJ/Producer Flux Pavilion, have all come together to create an original single titled, “Jah No Partial.”

Following the latest single from Major Lazer, “Get Free,” the genre’s fictional cartoon character of the “secret” 1984 Zombie War, the dancehall commando is back with “Jah No Partial.” For the third release from Major Lazer’s upcoming album Free The Universe, Major Lazer has built the track around a sample from the rocksteady beat and vocal talents of Jamacian legend, Johnny Osbourne‘s, “Mr. Marshall”.

The track, “Jah No Partial,” seamlessly transforms and transcends genres, meshing past and present within one song. During the four-minute run, Major Lazer takes listeners on a trip, starting with a slow tempo dancehall rhythm, and dropping to a frantic electro-dance beat. Then, a bass-filled skank beat enters, mimicking the classic sample of “Mr. Marshall”.

In the midst of production, Diplo has officially confirmed that long-time collaborative partner, Switch has gone his separate way, away from Major Lazer. With Switch gone, two new members, Jillionaire & Walshy Fire have joined the Major Lazer act, continuing the music that their devoted fan base adore. Along with the change in the lineup, Major Lazer has also announced that the release date for their next full-length album, Free The Universe, has been pushed back.

Major Lazer’s new date for the album release will now be February 19th, 2013, via Mad Decent/Downtown Records (a partnership of Universal Music‘s Fontana Distribution). The Major Lazer crew will be using the extra time to keep the hype going for the project, by continuing to tour and possibly releasing a couple more singles prior to the official 2013 release date.

While we wait in anticipation, check out the collaborative track and an accompanying animated lyric video for the new electro-reggae-dance hybrid track, “Jah No Partial.” The Major Lazer crew “hopes to incite a revolution in Future Kingston; Jah is not partial to anyone: the police, the government or the children in the garrison streets….”
