The Supervillains New Album “Vol. 8”

The Supervillains are way ahead of the rest of us just emerging from our New Year’s stupor as they have been working hard for the release of their seventh full-length album Volume 8. Florida’s leading Reggae-Rock band is gearing up for a April 9, 2013 release on Rah Rah Records. Find out more inside.

As featured in The Pier’s Most Anticipated Albums of 2013, The Supervillains’ Volume 8 will be released via their own record label, Rah Rah Records, which has kept us hooked with the screaming ballads from 2012’s Robots EP and the upbeat beach jams of 2011’s Postcards from Paradise LP. This upcoming year will not disappoint, along with the band’s transition to handling all production of the album in-house.

Dan Grundorf, the band’s bassist and engineering mastermind, has mixed together a promising album. According to Dom Maresco, the band’s drummer and singer, “The album is a collection of covers and re-mixes, with some brand new material thrown in as well”.

Several concert set-list favorites are getting some attention on this album with official studio treatment such as “Resin” (off of 2006’s Grow Yer Own) and The Slickers“Johnny Too Bad”. Covers such as “Where Is My Mind” originally done by the Pixies and “This Must Be True Love” by Toots and the Maytals can be found on the album amongst remixes of the band’s original songs.

Guest vocalists for the upcoming release include Antonee First Class from The English Beat and Florida rapper DP. Also, the horn section from Control This! gives some serious punch to the track “Bottom of the World” (from Postcards from Paradise).

In a previous interview with The Pier, The Supervillains mentioned their struggle in narrowing down the singles to re-work, yet their selections are guaranteed to stick with the band’s ever evolving spirit with new sounds and styles. As the band said, “Some songs are chopped and screwed from the original masters, with a tasty list of guest vocalists”.

The band has taken a unique approach to releasing all 12 tracks on the album by dishing out one track per week starting February 5th. Full-length hard copies and digital release is scheduled for April 9th, 2013.
