Dropkick Murphys Dropkick Racism on Stage!

From Boston, MA, Irish Punk Rockers, Dropkick Murphy’s were performing last week on March 13th at Terminal 5 in NYC. Apparently, a member of the band, punched out a nazi saluting fan, in the middle of a song, while on stage…

Gearing up for the St Paddy’s Day weekend, Dropkick Murphys, were performing on stage with what looks like 100 of their closest friends securing every inch of the stage during the set’s closing song. Needless to say, things got a little out of hand following their song ““Skinhead on the M.B.T.A.”. The group was performing their traditional closing song with a cover of “T.N.T.” by AC/DC when the altercation took place.

Provided by fans in attendance, below are videos of the altercation and here is a firsthand description of the night, courtesy of Rocks Off (via Gawker):

“As the band kicked into T.N.T. by AC/DC some moron started seig heiling (the nazi salute) in time to the beat…Ken Casey noticed this and ran right over to the guy, smashed him in the face, took off his bass and hit him with that and then jumped on him and all out chaos ensued. We could only assume from our vantage point that said nazi got his ass kicked. About 30 seconds later Ken emerged from the pileup with his shirt torn and made his way back to the front of the stage. He strapped on his bass and said into the microphone ‘Nazis are NOT FUCKING WELCOME at a Dropkick Murphys show.”

I guess when folks hear the word Skinhead, I’m sure it’s easy to associate it with racism or simply being a Nazi. But the song “Skinhead on the M.B.T.A.” is actually a tribute to the working class punks of Boston, MA not the nazi saluting, ignorant knuckleheads who see the word skinhead as a tribute to their own racist lifestyle.

Dropkick Murphy’s will have plenty more opportunities to reinforce their stance AGAINST nazi’s as they’re on the road touring in promotion of their latest album, Signed and Sealed in Blood, which is a reference to tattoos. The tour is expected to last for three whole months and will include performances at Coachella, Sasquatch!, and Kanrocksas.
