Reggae Legends, Black Uhuru, are hitting the road this Fall, sharing the stage with singer songwriter, Mike Pinto. Mike plans on bringing the full band while Black Uhuru will be joined by Ras Danny & The Reggae All Star Band from Trenchtown, Jamaica!
Mike Pinto brings a unique balance to a Black Uhuru show with his original rendition of story-telling writing with his blend of reggae, blues & rock. He’s still promoting the latest release of his 5th studio album, Truthful Lies. The album features a slew of guest appearances, with Junior Marvin (Bob Marley), Jesse Wagner and Roger Rivas (of The Aggrolites), George Laks (Lenny Kravitz) & Chuck Treece (Bad Brains, G Love, McRad). While all those guests won’t be on tour w/Mike, the new songs will be & I’m sure he’ll be stoked to hear your song requests!
Be on the lookout for an upcoming interview with Mike Pinto where we’ll further discuss this tour, his latest music & his plans for the future.
Black Uhuru is rumored to be working on new music with Derrick “Duckie” Simpson on lead vocals. No word on whether or not any new material will be performed live, but it never hurts to shout your request! The original Uhuru’s (Swahili for freedom) were Derrick “Duckie” Simpson, Euvin “Don Carlos” Spencer and Rudolph “Garth” Dennis. They only recorded a few singles “Folk Songs” “Time Is On Our Side” and “Slow Coach” before separating. Don went solo and frequently collaborates with Slightly Stoopid, while Garth joined Wailing Souls.
Duckie reformed the group adding Michael Rose & Errol “Tarzan” Nelson. Errol later left to join The Jayes. He was soon replaced by American female singer & dancer Sandra “Puma” Jones. They teamed up with drummer Sly Dunbar and bass player Robbie Shakespeare. Despite all of BLACK UHURU’s change of different singers and musicians the one thing that has always remained is Derrick “Duckie” Simpson.
Black Uhuru will be joined by Ras Danny & The Reggae All Star Band from Trenchtown, Jamaica. Check the tour dates below & catch the Jamaican based legends sharing the stage with Mike Pinto this fall starting November 5th!
