Cali-Roots ’15 Artist Announcement (Rnd. 3)

California Root’s Presents Inc. has made their final artist announcement for the 6th Annual California Roots Music and Art Festival, rounding out the already solid bill with the return of Grammy Nominatee, SOJA, along with John Butler Trio and a handfull of other favorites.

Attracting over 40,000 fans to the bay area over the Memorial Day weekend, quickly becoming a top tier national music festival, California Roots is on a mission to become the premier gathering for the progressive US Reggae movement. Over the past five years the event has made a name for itself, while strengthening the following of the scene by bringing together some of the most influential names of the genre as well as introducing fans to complementary acts from around the world.

“The ability to bring back essential artists to our festival, but at the same time continue to add sensational and relevant artists to the ‘Roots’ movement goes to show how far and wide our musical and artistic communities reach,” says festival Co-Producer Dan Sheehan. He continues: “Being able to book top tier Reggae, Hip Hop and Blues artists all under the unifying term of ‘Roots’ music proves that the California Roots movement has no boundaries.”

This fall California Roots revealed a strong line-up of 30 genre crossing acts set to hit the stages for it’s sixth year. Now the the event has made its final artist announcement, adding 9 more acts to complete what festival organizers have said is “one of our most exciting line-ups ever.”

Topping the list as the event’s third headliner is none other than SOJA, returning once again after their highly talked about Friday night closing set from last year. Recently, SOJA scored a Grammy nomination for “Best Reggae Album” alongside legends Ziggy Marley, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Sean Paul, Shaggy, and Sly & Robbie. Dan Sheehan adds, “this is a testament to all the hard work the US ‘roots’ scene has done over the years to build and showcase our community. We are extremely proud of them and excited to have them back in 2015 as a headliner.”

Like SOJA, returning again this year will be Iration, and also back on the bill is Cas Haley. Due to a scare with his voice, Haley had to cancel his appearance at last years event along with two tours. After retraining to sing in a new way, the sweet sounds of Cas Haley will finally grace the fairgrounds this next summer.

After a festival tour around the US last summer, Blues and Roots Rock act known around the world as the John Butler Trio, will play for the first time at California Roots. And, from the other end of the spectrum, Hip Hop legends Cypress Hill will also be joining the party.

Also added to this year’s California Roots Festival is the acoustic rock of Ethan Tucker backed by a band, southern California’s Reggae-Rockers Pacific Dub and Soul Majestic, as well as KBong, the side project of the Stick Figure keyboardist, Kevin Bong.
