Theatrical Musical: ‘Home Street Home’

The fire-engulfed alleyways of hell have reported record-freezing temperatures since Fat Mike of NOFX announced plans to produce a theatrical musical from the Eugene O’Neil Theater workshop. The project is appropriately called Home Street Home and will be brought to the stage for an extremely limited 10 performances at Z-Space in the heart of the Mission district of San Francisco, CA.

Fat Mike will produce the musical score and receive assistance on vocals from Tony Award winner Jeff Marx and AVN Award winning fetish femme Soma Snakeoil. The story will follow a narrative based on the life of the authors with characters inhabited by a wide roster of vocalists including Frank Turner, Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba, Tony Award winner Lena Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch), Bad Cop/Bad Cop’s Stacey Dee, the late Tony Sly of No Use For A Name, and Dance Hall Crashers’ Karina Denike (Fat Wreck Chords).

“The story of Home Street Home revolves around Sue, a 16-year old runaway who plunges headfirst into the deviant subculture and alternative lifestyle of the streets” (Fat Wreck Chords).

The concept album will be released on Feb. 10, 2015 through Fat Wreck Chords. Tracks will feature appearances from members of the Descendents, Lagwagon, Old Man Markley, Mad Caddies, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, The Aggrolites, The Living End, The Real McKenzies, and RKL.

Fat Mike has been intrigued by musicals ever since he saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the ripe young age of 8. He is lucky to have found two people (Marx and Snakeoil) “that love breaking things as much as I do. This is fucking fun!”

Once the NOFX singer breaks the mold and changes the face of a Broadway style production forever, the question remains: Can you still be considered punk rock after winning a Tony Award?
