With winter tours and album releases surfacing, getting us ready for 2014, I recently got news with one of the tours I am most anticipating for the New Year. On January 31, Boston’s own Aer will be kicking off their Word of Mouth Tour in their hometown at the House of Blues, joined alongside by Washington D.C. up-and-comers RDGLDGRN.
The Word of Mouth Tour makes stops in over 30 cities across the United States and into Canada, including a two-night performance in New York City at Irving’s Plaza & an appearance in Austin, Texas at SXSW. This is going to be an important and beneficial tour for both Aer and RDGLDGRN, as each group is known for their cross-over blend of genres as well as their young and growing fan bases.
RDGLDGRN released their self-titled debut album in September with Universal Republic Records. The band is currently signed to Fairfax Records, a joint venture with Universal and owned and operated by producer Kevin Augunas (Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Cold War Kids). To record their debut album the guys went out to the famous Sound City Studio in Van Nuys, CA where classic records like Rumors and Nevermind were recorded. Not only did they get to record in style, former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman, David Grohl played drums on the entire record. On top of that amazing guest appearance, hip-hop icon Pharrell Williams (N.E.R.D. and The Neptunes) co-wrote and co-produced the track “Doing the Most”. And if that wasn’t enough, I got a chance to see them live, opening up for Pepper, a few months back, and I can vouch that they were damn good so this tour is set up to be something special.
Not only will this will prove to be a monumental event for both bands, but Aer will be releasing their self-titled sophomore album on January 21, 2014, just ten days before they hit the road. The duo’s first single off the new album is entitled “Wont Laugh” and is accompanied by an outstanding video you can check out below.
In an interview with the group, vocalistCarter Shultz compares the new album “It [The Bright Side] caught your eye, right off the bat, but at the end of the day there leaves so much room for expansion. The new album [Aer] is the same voices, just improved and intensified. When we’re trying to be bright and happy, we’re brighter and happier than ever. When we’re trying to be emotional and darker we’re really trying to be spot on with that.”
David von Mering plays guitar and sings most of the hooks, while Carter Shultz does the emceeing. Their new Aer album was recorded in Boston and LA, and from the looks of it, will touch some new ground for the hip-hop blending duo. They have shared the stage with artists such as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Slightly Stoopid, SOJA, Action Bronson, Iggy Azalea and A$AP Rocky. This tour is bound to be something awesome, so make sure you get your tickets, which are currently on sale!
