Southern California has been a breeding ground for great talent in the reggae community. However, it seems as if recently, many bands are emerging from the Los Angeles area. One of those bands is Arise Roots and we decided to check in with them as they are currently working on their 3rd full-length album, Love and War.
Formed in 2010, this roots reggae quintet is made up of 5 solid musicians who all previously had experience playing in other reggae bands in the surrounding area. Their modern roots sound, motivational lyrics and serious harmonies have had the underground scene in their hometown buzzing for years and the band is beginning to get the recognition their talent deserves.
Arise Roots started gaining further exposure late last year with the release of their latest single, “Cool Me Down.” The track was produced by fellow roots musician specialist, E.N Young, at his own Imperial Sound Recording Studio and features blooming female artist, Hirie. The collaboration took place in October of 2013, just before Hirie hit the road with Fortunate Youth and Tribal Seeds on her first national tour. While traveling the country, she quickly gained new fans everyday as the single was being promoted, helping Arise Roots grow its network.
Very pleased with the outcome of “Cool Me Down,” Arise Roots took full advantage of the time E.N Young would be spending in San Diego after the Tribal Youth Tour and before heading off on his next venture with Tribal Seeds. “Currently we have 9 songs recorded with E.N and are set to finish another 4 or 5 between now and May. All of these songs are being recorded directly for the new upcoming album entitled ‘Love and War,’ which will all be recorded at Imperial Sound. We like his creativity and he has a good ear, which is priceless in recording and engineering,” says the band about working with E.N Young.
Arise Roots plans to have the album completed by late summer or fall, but they are also taking their time to make sure they release another quality album for the masses. When The Pier asked if there would be any more collaborations coming in the near future, their manager, Rudy Gayton, responded with, “As of right now it’s a possibility! We may have an ace or two up our sleeve but don’t want to reveal anything before it’s time! Right now we are just focusing on getting the core of the album completed so anything extra will be icing on the cake!”
So far, Arise Roots has had a solid year, playing back to back sold out shows earlier this month alongside some big talent such as Fortunate Youth, True Press, Through The Roots, Anuhea, Rebel Souljahz and many more. In addition to their local shows, the band has hopes to spread their music to the north and southwest regions of the country and will be playing the upcoming PassOne Down and Uplift Music and Art Apparel festivals.
Stay tuned as we keep you updated with any moves that Arise Roots may be making and be on the lookout for their 3rd full-length album to drop later this year!
