It’s August & cities around the nation are heating up, many reaching triple digits. Fortunately, The Pier has a list of new music with 10 new albums from 10 different artists to help everyone keep their cool.
August is an exiting month for new music. Not only has SOJA released their highly anticipated new record, but several underground Reggae-Rock bands have also added to the mix. Be sure to to check out these 10 new releases dropping this month.

Arise Roots – Love & War
Release Date: August 5th
Available everywhere on August 5th, Los Angeles’ Arise Roots recently released their highly anticipated sophomore album, Love and War. Produced in San Diego, California, at E.N Young’s Imperial Sound Recording Studio, the album is host to 15 original tracks showcasing the band’s signature sound of modern roots style reggae along with guest appearances by some of today’s rapidly rising artists in the reggae scene.

Roots of a Rebellion – Heartifact
Release Date: August 8th
Amidst touring along the east coast earlier this year, Nashville’s Roots of a Rebellion have been busy inside Castle Studios recording their debut full length album. After four years of writing, recording, performing, and much anticipation, Roots of a Rebellion released Heartifact on August 8th. A follow up to their 2012 EP Inner Light, this record features 13 new tracks that the band believes is a good snap shot of how far they have come over the past few years.

SOJA – Amid The Noise And Haste
Release Date: August 12th
It’s been world news now that SOJA has released their new album Amid The Noise & Haste via ATO Records. Days after its release, the album has seen strong reviews. A true full-length, with 17 tracks, this album has a lot of depth to its production and arranging with a sound that’s evolved with the bands conscience lyrics & message. There are several guest make appearances, including Michael Franti, Nahko, Collie Buddz, Anuhea, J Boog and Alfred the MC.

Various Artists – Reggae Gold 2014
Release Date: August 12th
VP Records has been on the forefront of the ever growing genre of reggae music for decades, presenting the best of what the culture has to offer. Their Reggae Gold Series compilations kicked off in 1992 and they’ve topped reggae billboard charts for the years that have since followed.
This year’s 12 track compilation was released August 12 and holds a fresh mix of heavy hitting styles and cultural personalities with hit songs on this album coming from artists: Major Lazer, Busy Signal, Jah Cure, Sean Paul, Konshens, Bunji Garlin, Fay-Ann Lyons, Assassin, QQ, Etana, Spice, Gyptain, Melanie Fiona, Maxi Priest and Roam Virgo.

Bunji Garlin – Differentology
Release Date: August 12th
The “Viking of Soca”, also known as Bunji Garlin, has released his newest album entitled Differentology via a joint venture between VP Records and RCA Records. Many of the album’s songs are full of dancehall and hip-hop influences, including “Touchless” and “Gi Dem Dey”, both produced by Trinidad’s Klase Gonzales of 1st Klase Productions. Garlin delivers his Trini-accented flow over the tracks including the hip-hop track “West Indian Jungle” produced by Jason Farmer. Also featured on this record is its title track,“Differentology”, produced by Sheriff Mumbles along with a Major Lazer remix, an EDM fusion of the original track.

New Reb- Good Example
Release Date: August 19th
After 4 years of work, Minneapolis’ Reggae-Hip Hop-Funksters have released their new record, Good Example. Recorded with the help of Healing Records and 17th Street Records, this 11-track album includes tracks featuring Casey Sullivan and Matt Liufau of Seedless, Pent Dean of Natty Vibes, Fre(w)ill, Cas Haley, Tubby Love and Essel.

Sly & Robbie – Dubmaster Voyage
Release Date: August 19th
Jamaican Production duo, and Reggae riddim makers, known together as Sly & Robbie, and individually as drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Robert Shakespeare, have had a jam-packed career. Since linking up in the mid-70s and forming Taxi Records, the pair has been a part of approximately 200,000 recordings! Now, Sly & Robbie have released yet another collage of sounds. Made up of 13 tracks, Dubmaster Voyage has been officially released.

SkillinJah – Champion Sound
Release Date: August 19th
Representing the Midwest with his Dancehall-Reggae-Rock flow, SkillinJah released his new record, Champion Sound. Champion Sound is SkillinJah’s 3rd record and follow up to his 2012 release of Reality. This new record includes 10 tracks produced via GanJah Records. Among the tracks are various collaborations with guests that include: Jah Pilot, Hassan, Nowlege, Josh Heinrichs, Lance Sitton, Soulfiya, Mike Steppa, Joel Castillo from 77 Jefferson & Ryan Castillo of Youthman Records.

Los Stellarians – Cholo Souls
Release Date: August 26th
311 DJ/Vocalist, SA Martinez and his label, Holy Grailien Records, has recently announced Los Stellarians. A new side-project that blends the talents of Martinez and musician/producer Ryan Siegel, Los Stellarians will release their debut album Cholo Soul on August 26th! An 8-track collection covering soulful songs from the ‘70s, the record is a tribute to some unheralded masters of classic soul and funk. Martinez explains “In many ways, this has been a dream album, I’ve always wanted to do a covers record of songs that inspire me on a soul-enriching level… There was a definite focus in mind, which was to cover some of the more underplayed sides of the American Soul canon.”

Morning Fatty – Resistance
Release Date: August 29th
In Gainesville, Florida, over the past few years a group of musicians on come together and rolled their talent into what has become known as Morning Fatty. Playing jams of Funk, Rock and Reggae, this Gainsville, FL based band known as Morning Fatty is set to release Resistance on August 29th. Following 2012’s Out of the Hat, Morning Fatty has amassed a ton of fans leading into the release of their second record. With the support of their growing fan-base, the band was able to produce the record independently, via a successful Kickstarter campaign. Now, all wrapped up & ready to go, the band has a record that will showcase the sounds they have developed over recent years. Be sure to check out the 13 tracks of Resistance, released August 29th.
