MARLEY, the first authorized film & definitive biography of the reggae legend Bob Marley, will be in theaters & on demand come April 20th 2012. It comes courtesy of Oscar-winning documentary maker Kevin Macdonald & aided by the singer’s family & label who gave the project the go ahead.
The film comes in just over 2hours & 20minutes that includes rare footage, incredible performances and revelatory interviews with the people that knew him best. Interviews with Marley’s children, his wife Rita, friends and former band-mate Bunny Wailer and with the Record Label’s blessing, the soundtrack is rumored to be just as appealing as the documentary.
Kevin Macdonald, who’s also known for his work in One Day In September and The Last King of Scotland has gone on record saying “I wanted to make a very simple film. It’s the most conventional film I think I ever made, very straight forward, just trying to be a detective and uncover the truth about his life and the truth about his character.”
Bob Marley had 11 children that included 7 mothers before he died of cancer in 1981 at the age of 36. His music, his message and influence has transcended different cultures, languages and creeds to resonate around the world today as powerfully as when he was alive.
“He made his reggae music to uplift us, inform, entertain, inspire, and make change in the world. He’s a musician, a poet and songwriter, a philosopher, a soldier, an activist and a leader.” – Cedella Marley
MARLEY has already made its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this month and will soon be followed by its North American premiere at SXSW. Magnolia Pictures will release it theatrically and on VOD come Friday, April 20th, 2012. Enjoy the Movie Trailer below and find more info at BobMarleyMovie.com.
