Considered by many to be a catalyst of breakthrough reggae artists, Kingston native Jesse Royal recently dropped his new single “Generation” featuring the talents of Jo Mersa Marley in anticipation of his Oct. 6 debut album Lily of Da Valley via Easy Star Records.
Jesse Royal has been picking up steam and notoriety across the reggae community inside a short time-frame. He was named JARIA (Jamaican Reggae Industry Association) Breakthrough Artist of The Year in 2015, and has not looked back. His music bolstered by infectious beats and heavy basslines, Jesse David LeRoi Grey has been crafting music 
for years, implementing his own unique styles across the genre.
After moving to Kingston, Jamaica, he befriended Daniel “Bambaata” Marley (son of Ziggy Marley) and has made it known that through their friendship, collaboration and love for music, helped spearhead his plans for becoming the artist he is today. His lyrics and messaging behind his music has been stated to serve as a reference point for the “most recent wave of conscious youths, inspiring those to connect to their African roots and also to do well onto one another.”
Jesse Royal’s new track “Generation” is a breath of fresh air featuring a steady hip-hop flow with overarching reggae styles and influences. Jo Mersa Marley is featured on the track, and listeners will find themselves nodding their head to the music across the track’s almost four-minute run-time.
The new song was featured as a premiere track at VIBE Magazine, and Jesse Royal was able to shed some details on the background behind the new single: “This is simply displaying our fearlessness and our resilience while ensuring them that we will not take it anymore. We put people over money, love over hate and peace over war, every time! It’s a takeover, not a protest.”
In addition to the new single, Jesse Royal has revealed details for his long-anticipated debut album Lily of Da Valley. The album will feature tracks scattered throughout his discography of singles, including his hit track “Modern Day Judas” and “Always Be Around.”
