April is a big month for The Beautiful Girls front man Mat. McHugh as he is finishing up his tour with Sublime With Rome and he just released his 2nd Solo Album!
On April 3rd via The Beautiful Girls facebook, Mat McHugh released his brand new album Love Come Save Me. This new album is the full length follow up to his 2011 EP Go Don’t Stop. A link was posted for a FREE download of the 10 song CD, with a comment saying “Download it, share it, gift it, spread it – yours, to do with as you please.”
Fans can go to his website and read a letter from Mat in which he explains how an Indian fortune teller cast predictions of Mat making his “most ‘important creative work’ in 2012.” To fulfill this prophecy Mat believed he had to create something “about love that it had to be shared.”
Therefore, He recorded an album that he says “means more to me than any before it. I made the best record I possibly could. I am going to release it as a free download from my website with an option to order a physical (bonus length) copy with a portion of the proceeds going to charity. My only goal is to spread love and give something back to the Universe.”
Giving away a brand new album is the ultimate gift an artist can give to his fans. As the letter and facebook post say Mat is “giving it away free as thanks to everyone who has kept him doing what he loves most… “ And this is not the first time Mat McHugh as been so generous. In 2009, His first full length solo album, Seperatista, was also released as, and still is available for free download.
Mat’s roots acoustic original style and sounds make these albums easy to listen and jam to. The vibes are ‘down to earth’ and full of real emotion, as in the title track’s allusion to the late great surfing legend Andy Irons. Mr. McHugh says it better than any writer could put it “… All the songs are made because I love them not because I thought they could make me some money or get me some airplay. If you like the album share it. I honestly feel that word of mouth is so much more powerful than any other way of discovering music. It’s up to you guys, YOU are my radio station…”
