If there is one thing Michael Frannti is known for, besides his uplifting music, it’s his energetic performances, often jumping out into the crowd for a few songs. During a performance on Rock Boat this past January, Franti injuring himself, left the trip early, and cancelled a February tour of the east coast. Now Michael Franti and Spearhead have recently announced a brand new set of tour dates spanning the US.
Tearing the meniscus in his left knee, Franti, following a performance on crutches for a show at the Belly Up in Aspen, got knee surgery in early February. After a bit of recovery, Franti was back on his feet a month later, returning to play the Belly Up before touring across Australia and New Zealand through April.
This summer, after sets late in May at California Roots in Monterey, California and then in Napa at the Bottlerock festival, Franti will hit the road in the beginning of June. The Once A Day Tour kicks off in Virgina before playing up the northeast, through the Midwest and down into the southeast. After a few more festival performances mid–summer, in August, the tour picks back up at Wanderlust Whistler in British Columbia before heading down the west coast. Supporting Michael Franti and Spearhead on select dates will be The Soul Rebels, Nattali Rize and Notis.
Recycling old show art, designed by Ryan Dreimiller, explaining why he chose to bring back the image, Franti posted that the “Love Bomber” symbolizes the opportunity that all of us have to share and inspire caring each day we are on the planet, with all the war, social turmoil and environmental destruction we see in the world today, we feel this message is more important than it ever has been.
Last October, Franti announced he was in the studio recording vocals on a new record. The first few tracks are expected out his summer. The title of this tour also coincides with the band’s upcoming new single Once A Day
It’s a track Franti says talks about the chaos and uncertainty of life and my belief that we should all take the time to hug, kiss, remember and love somebody “AT LEAST once a day.” It’s all about highlighting positivity, finding ways to give back to the greater good, celebrating the journey and being grateful for the blessings and challenges of life.
