Boston ska veterans Mighty Mighty BossToneS have released “The Constant” as the second single from their upcoming album While Were At It. The track joins “Wonderful Day For The Race,” which was released mid-May. The album will drop in full on June 15th.
Front man Dicky Barrett said this about the track: “I wrote ‘The Constant’ with award-winning songwriter Jonathan Kimmel while the band and I were writing part one of this trilogy The Mighty Mighty BossToneS’ album ‘Pin Points and Gin Joints.’ At that time we made the decision that it would be better suited for part three, so it was shelved for many years. BossToneS’ keyboard player Johnny J.G. Goetchius mastered and perfected the keyboard part making the song what I consider to be undeniable.”

“The Constant,” like “Wonderful Day For The Race,” is politically and socially charged, as Barrett told The Pier the whole album would be in a January interview. Their most recent press release has said the record “chronicles the harsh realities of life and gives hope for a better future.” The first part of the trilogy, Pin Points and Gin Joints (2009), was the first BossToneS’ album since 2002. It continued with the upbeat and optimistic The Magic of Youth in 2011, and now finally concludes with While Were At It, which the BossToneS have called their “best effort to date” in previous interviews. It deals closely with the current tide of American politics, while at the end of the day capturing this mantra, according to Barrett: “it’s how you handled what you’re handed when it’s handed to you.”
All three albums of the trilogy were produced by Ted Hutt, who has made his name in the music industry, specifically in rock and punk, since 2002. Hutt is also known for his work with Flogging Molly, The Dropkick Murphys, Lucero, The Gaslight Anthem, and The Bouncing Souls. While Were At It will be released via Big Rig Records on June 15th.
