Jah Sun’s “Love Currency” Background:

Jah Sun’s fifth studio album, Between The Lines, was recorded at Prairie Sun Studios in Cotati, CA with Jah Sun’s intrigue coming from the studios analog boards, vintage mics, amps, guitars and most importantly, the atmosphere. “For this album, I wanted an organic, live feel. The aim was to make a perfect piece of imperfection, and I think we did that.”

Jah Sun worked with a diverse group of musicians who helped set the tone for the record — an approach that was new to Jah Sun as he describes that “In the past, I had a pre-produced composition to write to, but this time we wrote everything from scratch, using a guitar and piano. I learned something new, that when the lyrics and music are born at the same time, it creates a totally different vibe than writing to a beat.”

The album includes 12 total tracks and in addition to the co-writes, Jah Sun worked with some heavy hitters in the world of reggae including Dean Fraser (Taurrus Riley), Dave “Prime Time” Green (Alborosie), Nikki Burt (Damien Marley), Merrick Shaw (Omi), Sam Gilly & his “House of Riddim” band from Austria and strings from Grammy winner Phil Peterson (Flo-Rida, Pink, Maroon 5). Completing the all-star talent were engineers Oz Fritz (Tom Waits, Blur) and Dario Cassilo as the album was co-produced by Dubtonic Kru, who played on most of the album.

Needless to say, Jah Sun has surrounded himself with talented artists who have helped accent and influence his approach with this new record that will stand out from prior releases.

Track 12 on the record is “Love Currency” and is the track we’re giving away for FREE download this week. Discussing the song, Jah Sun tells The Pier: “Well it’s the world that I Dream of… Somewhere we spend time, not dollars. This song is meant to remind us that the best things in life aren’t things. I’m also honored to have Grammy winner Phil Peterson doing strings on this track.”

Jah Sun’s new album Between The Lines will drop on April 28th, 2017. In the meantime, you can pick up his catalog of music on iTunes by clicking HERE!
