“Love’s In The Melody” Background:
Kimie’s new self-titled record, at 11 total tracks, sees Kimie coming into her own as an artist from her journey of world travels, her residency in Los Angeles, and her re-connection to her native Hawaiian roots. The theme for the album is Land, which Kimié states, “It’s about our connection to the land and the seasons we experience both in our surroundings and within ourselves.”
The album, recorded in Los Angeles, Indianapolis, and Hawai’i, was written and produced closely with Billy Van. Other great collaborators include Caleb Keolanui of The Green on “Love’s In The Melody,” and additional production from Imua Garza, Matt Honda, and Scott Wilks.
Here’s Kimie told The Pier with regards the new song “Love’s In The Melody” featuring The Green’s lead vocalist Caleb Keolanui where they collaborated by sending each other voice recordings from their iPhones:
“I co-wrote this song with Caleb Keolanui. We wrote this one long distance while he was on tour and I was in Hawai’i. We wanted to do a song for our other halves waiting at home for us while we’re on the road. This song is about that certain melody in a song that reminds you of the person you’re missing, loving, etc. That no matter where we are they can hear our love for them in that song.”
This isn’t the first time that Kimie has collaborated with The Green as she was featured on The Green’s debut album on the heart-break themed duet titled “How Does It Feel?” back in 2010. She released her debut EP in 2009 with Distant Traveler followed by the 2013 EP release of To The Sea.
This new record was recorded mostly in Hawai’i at Blue Planet Sound Recording Studio. Bolstered by her recent move back home, Miner met a variety of writers and producers in her travels, through which she encountered fresh musical ideas and new versions of herself. This combination of mobility and grounded-ness informs her assertion that “I am not just a Hawaiian entertainer. I am a songwriter with a mission to let my roots give me wings. I want to be able to show young people that they can be proud of who they are and where they come from while still exploring the rest of the world.”

Kimie Miner Background:
Kimie is a fantastic up & coming artist making waves in the reggae, soul, acoustic realm. She has played on tour with Barrington Levy, Tubby Love, Mike Love, and The Green, just to name a few. Kimie is no stranger to the power of music, and she admits: “I fell in love with music as a child and it naturally just became apart of my life. No matter where I am in my life, I know I can always turn to music. My music is very personal to me and it was something I liked to keep to myself. I guess you could say I was a kind of a closet musician at first.”
Kimie, who taught herself to play her Dad’s old guitar in high school continued on to say, “I think meeting reggae singer Barrington Levy changed that for me. The experience of being on stage and on the road with him really inspired me to pursue my own musical career.”
Some of those influences, come from her three favorite albums: The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill by Lauryn Hill, Lover’s Rock by Sade, and Elua by Cecilio and Kapono.
If you have seen any of Kimie’s videos or listened to her music, there is always an incorporation of nature and the ocean. Something rooted in her Hawaiian culture and the DNA for her songwriting style.
“Growing up on an island, we are influenced by the ocean, and the beauty that surrounds us. As Hawaiians, we were taught that the land is like another family member and is a huge part of our culture.”
It seems as though she is not the only one who shares a strong bond to the island state. With fellow artists Pepper, The Green, Iration, Anuhea, and Mike Love, Hawaii has become an apparent vessel for artists, each giving their own take to the Hawaiian style of reggae-rock.
