Micah Brown – “Summer Again”
“Summer Again” Background & Quote:
Aside from just asking all the details of his new album, we thought we’d ask Micah Brown the back story to the song “Summer Again”. I always appreciate a song more when I know the depths of its meaning and how it came together. Here’s what Micah had to say about “Summer Again”…
“‘Summer Again’ came from a completely different song idea. Some of the chords came from a tune me and my buddy Mitch Holifield came up with together in middle school. Years later, I remembered some of those interesting chords (it’s in Drop D tuning) and started re-working the arrangement, and then came up with the Latin-sounding chorus.
It sat without lyrics for another period of time, and one day I showed my drummer Kevin and he was instantly like ‘dude you gotta finish that one’. It ended up as one of my favorites on the album, and I love Kevin’s groove that he added to it.
The music itself has enough personality without lyrics to take you on a journey, and the words just add to it. I always associate the major 7 chords with love and happiness and sunshine, so when I added the bridge lyrics that’s how the name ‘Summer Again’ came about. Juan Rios helped finish off the song with his work on keyboards and his knack for perfect harmonies.”

Micah Brown Bio/Background:
Creating his own unique sound, dubbed “California soul-folk”. Micah’s music fuses folk, soul, rhythm & blues, reggae, and rock. Growing up in Lancaster, and now, working out of Dana Point, CA, Micah’s music blends his early musical influences of blues and folk, with the sounds of So Cal that he grew-up on. Pairing that, with his love for Americana, Micah creates a modern, eclectic twist on the singer-songwriter sound that normally develops out of Southern California.
Over the past year, Micah has shared the stage with artists such as Ben Harper, Ziggy Marley, G. Love, Iration, Mishka & Anuhea. Micah also chimed in on harmonies & back up vocals for Dirty Heads’ new record Cabin By The Sea.
With a new album on the way, Micah told The Pier, “The Isle of Her is a project that has been coming together in my head for years. It’s a journey through the ups and downs of love, life, struggle, growing up and letting go, and new beginnings. Which is pretty much what I’ve experienced since I started writing songs.”
The Isle of Her includes 14 tracks with producer Lewis Richards (Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, Dirty Heads) at Costa Mesa’s 17th Street Recording Studios.
Micah Brown continued to describe the album to The Pier “…The sound of the music itself is like a mixtape of all my musical influences, interpreted by myself, taken to the next level with production and guidance from Lewis Richards… I had the honor of having many amazing musicians play on the record, which brought the overall quality up another level as well…”
