The Bastard Suns – “Enlighten Up”
New Album Background:
The homegrown, bluegrass/reggae band The Bastard Suns have released their newest album Long Live Song. It is the Atlanta based groups’ fourth full-length album, and includes punk, bluegrass, and reggae.
Here’s what the group had to say about the song “Enlighten Up”:
“Enlighten Up is a song about taking what you want out of life now, as opposed to waiting for it to be handed to you. It’s also a nod to older bands like Toots & the Maytals, whose full-band harmonies and rocksteady rhythms have had a huge influence on us.”
This album also features two new band members with Mongo Peterson on bass and Whitney Carite who adds a new dimension to the band as a female vocalist. Since the Bastards have always self-funded their tours, they decided to put the fate of this album in the hands of their fans. Using a Kickstarter campaign, they used donations from fans to help fund the album production, and will now embark on their 10th national tour.

The Bastard Suns Background:
The Bastard Suns are a four-piece sonic assault vehicle. In just under 9 years, this Atlanta band has managed to release four full-length albums and five EPs. Their tours are completely self-funded, and have spanned the length of the U.S. over a dozen times, including countless East Coast and southern tours.
The Bastard Suns have always set themselves apart by seamlessly blending their original blend of punk, ska, bluegrass, folk and reggae, with an Irish undertone. What began as a small grassroots campaign is quickly turning into a full-blown national following and it seems that The Bastards are only just now hitting their creative stride.
