“Poor” Background:
The Olés new 14 track album, Strictly Speaking is the follow up to their April 2014 EP Westward Bound. The new record provides a harmonious blend of upbeat reggae, lyrical hip hop, and rockin’ funk. Highlights include their cover of Atmosphere’s “Sunshine,” in addition to this weeks FREE MP3, the feel good track “Poor”.

Here’s what the group had to say about their debut albums leading single:
“‘Poor’ is an expression of the lives that we lived in college when we wrote this song. Our goal as a band is to break out and play music all around the world, but it is a grind with the cost of living keeping us from investing all we have into music. Even without any money we feel that we can make a push with our charisma and creativity.”

Frontman Matt Tweed says “Writing music allows me to find the silver linings in life and give them vibrancy through lyrics. We have a responsibility as musicians to promote peace and positivity when we have a microphone on a stage or songs in a stereo.”

The Olés Background:
On a warm San Diego Winter afternoon, guitarist and singer Cole resurfaced after de-boarding a knee high wave and exclaimed, “Olé!” This moment would mark the conception of a musical movement known as “The Olés.” Musicians from all sides of the United States and even Western Europe soon joined forces to form a group that would defy categorical norms. The root “Olé” has Arabic origins and was used as an exclamation of celebration and praise. The Olés mission is to celebrate and praise the beauty of music with as many people as possible. Drawing from every artistic style, The Olés present a seamless blend of musical appreciation. They feel most at home on stage, entertaining communities with a top shelf cocktail of reggae, hip hop, rock, funk, and blues.

After setting up headquarters in Santa Barbara, CA, home of the stoke, The Olés methodically outlined their path to success. Four years after that fateful winter day, the dedicated group has absorbed a sea of loving fans that are eager to play a vital role in their sonic journey.

In a short span of time, The Olés have shared the stage with reggae legend Don Carlos, as well as Common Kings, Fortunate Youth, Katchafire, and the Mad Caddies, and they look to continue the trend as they will also be performing at California Roots Music & Arts Festival this May!
