Through The Roots“Slow Down”

“Slow Down” is track 5 off Through The Roots new album Take You There. The song starts soft & piano driven before vocalist Evan Hawkins sings about love over a slow, heavy, reggae backdrop. The best way to describe the song and it’s meaning can be best summed up by Evan himself.

Here’s what he had to share regarding the song:
“The song ‘Slow Down’ was written to evoke that feeling you get when you think of someone you once loved and it seems to just slow time down. It could spark a positive thought or a negative feeling, but what we wanted to illustrate was the seemingly physical halting of time when those thoughts begin to fill your mind. Although we may leave relationships for better or for worse, we are reminiscent of memories that we can’t help but be fond of. There is always going to be those yearning questions; is that person thinking of me? What would they be thinking about? How do they feel about it? We just always have to remember that there is nothing you can do to replace the memories that you made, but the best thing is to leave them in the past. What’s done is done and you can only reminisce on the good times.”
– Evan Hawkins, Guitarist/Vocalist of Through The Roots.

Through The Roots Background
Out of San Diego, CA, Through The Roots is comprised of Evan Hawkins (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Chris Cruz (Lead Guitar, Keys, Vocals), Brady O’Rear (Keys), Taylor Boatwright (Drums, Vocals) and newcomer Ross Garcia (Bass).

The group came together as a band in 2008 and blended its unique sounds of reggae and rock music. TTR quickly captured music fans’ attention all over the West Coast and soon was touring across the U.S. with many of the top performers in its genre. In the past five years, TTR has toured or played with high-profile groups Rebelution, Iration, Tribal Seeds, The Green, Tomorrow’s Bad Seeds, Passafire, Pepper, The Expendables, Natural Vibrations and Alborosie in various shows around the nation, as well as a show in one of Canada’s top festivals.

A big part of the year was spent working on their first full-length album, recording in various studios in Hollywood, Encinitas, and Rancho Bernardo, CA. This all came off the heels of a successful release of the Zombies EP. They also performed at the 2013 California Roots Festival, playing in the three-day, 40-band event and was offered the trip to play in Guam, following their friends Tribal Seeds, The Green and Rebelution to play two shows on the scenic island in the Pacific.
