Wheeland Brothers “Lovers’ Ledge” Background:
The bulk of Wheeland Brothers third studio album was recorded at Hurley Studios in Costa Mesa, CA with producer, Jon Berry. “We brought in beach balls, burritos, pinatas, pirate flaggs… Gave it that Wheeland Brothers Hideaway vibe,” shared Nate Wheeland. The group started the recording process by building a studio decked out with bamboo and homemade soundproof serapes out of Travis Wheeland’s “Treehouse” in San Clemente, CA. “You’d swear you’re recording inside a Baja surf shack,” says Nate.
When we asked Nate what they could tell us about the new 12 track record, and what inspired it’s release, he explained that it was a record in the making sing 2012. Finding themselves along the journey of losing themselves and exploring whats out there is what lead to the inspiration of Lost In The Key of Sea.
Nate tells The Pier: “Inspiration is an important part of the creative process for us. It’s not just about the music… We’ve gotta have something to say. Last summer I felt inspired big time when we released our single, ‘Safe Side.’ That’s when we really found the motivation and dove into this project. We were so moved by the impact that song had on our fans. It made us realize the power of music. I think about really great artists like Jack Johnson, Bob Marley, Michael Franti… they make great tunes that teach you how to be a better you. The lyrics and melody become a mantra to live by. We hope that this record will inspire fans the way they have inspired us.”

Wheeland Brothers Background:
The brothers (Nate “Frogg” and Travis Wheeland) officially began their musical journey during a backpacking trip to Kalalau on the island of Kauai in 2010, where they were inspired to create their first album with 2012’s “Toast to the Coast.” Combining forces with their friend Marcus Agundes, they began developing their sound and performing at venues all over California. In July 2013 their sophomore album “Muchos Mahalos” was released as it has been three years since the duo has dropped a new album before Lost In The Key of Sea dropped on August 26th, 2016. With a Beach Rock Reggae sound reminiscent of Jack Johnson and Sublime, these guys are your musical SoCal surfer beach bums.
