Along with a chance to start fresh, the start of a new year also means that the winter touring season has begun or is already in progress. On January 15th, Passafire will be teaming up with Tatanka for their 2015 Winter Tour.
The short run features just under 20 shows and should offer a nice change of pace in between bands as they each have a unique approach to playing reggae-influenced music. Passafire, from Savannah, Georgia, is known for their progressive alternative-rock style while Tatanka, from Denver, Colorado, specializes in a dub-infused performance. Each quartet is backed by steady drum patterns, solid key-work, funky bass lines and an array of guitar solos.
Passafire is currently wrapping up their Fall Tour 2014 in which they have been debuting new songs off their upcoming album throughout each performance. The entire tour has included a number of different artists joining Passafire on select dates across the nation. Some of the supporting acts have consisted of bands like The Hip Abduction, T.U.G.G., Dub Architect, and many more. Also in the mix was a west coast run with Los Angeles’ The Expanders before the tour made its way back east. However, the shows along the California coast were not to be concluded before making a stop in Monterey to play at the Autumn Roots Festival presented by the founders of Cali-Roots.
Tatanka is currently riding a wave of success brought on by their self-titled, Sept. 9th full-length release. The 12-track album, produced by E.N Young of Tribal Seeds and released under his Roots Musician Records label, received nearly 3.5 stars in The Pier’s official review of the album while also debuting at number 1 on the iTunes Reggae charts. Ted Bowne of Passafire is featured on track 10 of the album, titled “The Yard,” so be on the lookout for a possible on-stage collaboration between the two bands.
