Scott Woodruff and company have long been at the helm of setting and raising the bar for reggae music with their lively performances and dub-centric accents since taking form in 2012. Still reeling from their “year of festivals” and the release of the widely acclaimed Set in Stone from 2015, Stick Figure has returned with their new single “Above the Storm” – one of their best tracks yet.
Stick Figure’s fifth full-length album Set In Stone was met with a warm reception upon its release in November 2015, and two years later is still #5 on the iTunes Reggae Albums Charts. The album also featured guest appearances from the likes of Eric Rachmany, Collie Buddz, Slightly Stoopid and Stick Figure’s very own KBong on the closing track “Smiles on Faces.”
The album was defined by the top-notch production quality that we’ve grown accustomed to from Woodruff, chorus-heavy melodies and various keyboard-led hooks. Taking a step further to branch off into something new while not losing the momentum generated from Set In Stone could seem like a tall order on the surface. However, Stick Figure succeeds in doing exactly that.
“Above The Storm” is a musical meditation; a five-minute pause to de-stress and unwind from hardships and battles that may be ailing us today. The track also hints at taking in moments of self-realization and not forgetting to live it up in the present.
Lyrically, the track serves as inspiration as well, with guiding moments from Woodruff such as “Close your eyes for a moment, Focus on the air that you breathe / Think good thoughts and now hold them, Now you slip into a dream.”

It had been rumored that Scott Woodruff had been hard at work in the newly acquired Oakland-based studio, however there are no confirmations or details regarding the release of the sixth full-length album from Stick Figure. Additionally, The Pier recently caught up for an exclusive interview with KBong and he confirmed that new music was indeed in the works, and that “when it hits, it’s going to be great!”
