Surfer Girl has officially begun campaigning for their debut album by dropping the records first single, titled “Two,” that features a guest appearance with The Hip Abduction.
Surfer Girl broke out onto the scene in May of 2021 when they dropped their debut EP that featured 5 songs backed by Ineffable Records. Their first couple of tours took place on the east coast alongside Collie Buddz & The Elovaters. It was during this time he was able to connect with Jackson Whetherbee of The Elovaters who is expected to be on the debut album. While on touring the east coast, Carter was connected with The Hip Abduction’s front-man, David New, that led to the final cut of the single “Two” that we’re enjoying today.

When catching up with Surfer Girl’s Carter Reeves he explains to The Pier that: “I had this song 80% finished for a long time, work-shopping it on stage last summer + fall while touring with Collie Buddz and The Elovaters. Around this time I was personally listening to a lot of The Hip Abduction, and was really digging David’s upbeat, indie, reverb’d dance music. After the label connected us, I invited him to our last show on tour in Asheville, NC. He came by, we immediately hit it off, and he told me that “Two” was his favorite song of the set. Just one problem… it had an empty second verse. That’s when I knew he’d be the perfect fit for the song, giving it an unusual spin, opposed to a traditional rapper or a more run of the mill feature. His commanding melodies, drenched in reverb give the song the perfect woozy, hazy, summer sunshine feel I wanted to capture.”
For Surfer Girl’s debut album, it’s expected to be 13 total tracks. In addition to David New & Jackson Whetherbee, we understand there to be additional guest appearances by Shwayze, Marcia Richards of The Skints, Little Stranger and more. Carter also connected with the production duo of Left Coast Sound (Jungle Josh & David Foral of Dirty Heads) on a new song, while spending time with producer & songwriter extraordinaire Johnny Cosmic who helped drive home most of the written album with Carter in the studio over a few days.

As for the song “Two” Carter continues telling The Pier: “I hope fans really connect with this record, a song about finding a healthy balance between moving on while not giving up hope. Between the more aggressive raps, smooth harmonies, and David’s killer verse, I hope people get a better understanding of what our band Surfer Girl is really about. Not to mention, this is only the first single of many, so I hope this prepares people to get on board for the ride to come!”
Surfer Girl has just announced 10 dates this summer with Ballyhoo! & Shawyze and when asked if we can ever expect to hear “Two” performed live with THA’s David New, Carter reveals: “We’ve got some shows coming up in NorCal with THA, and I’d love to bust this puppy out on stage.”
