Any promoter can tell you how difficult it is to organize bands, a venue, and get the word out for people to attend an event. The promoters of the Homegrown Northwest Reggae Festival, Mike Yarosz and Bill Ulsund, were inspired to create a festival and camping trip to congregate the local scene.
After Bill was asked to organize the Tacoma Urban Arts Festival, which was unfortunately cancelled, Mike and Bill reached out to a promoter, Morgan Henley in Carnation, WA, a long with the local reggae scene and received an incredible response. Campers and festival goers will enjoy twenty bands on two stages over two days. The festival and campgrounds are located at Cook’s Farm in Carnation, WA from July 25-27, 2014 for only $25.00 until June 25, 2014. After that, tickets will only go up another $5.00.
This festival, by the individual organizers during a resilient grassroots movement, made it clear the event is not used to make anyone rich, but will become a staple in gathering the local reggae community under the same banner. The festival features local acts Indubious, Yogoman Burning Band, High Ceiling, Two Story Zori, Tribal Order, in addition to Mike and Bill’s band, Positive Rising.
The festival will be headlined by solo reggae artist Josh Heinrichs, owner of GanJah Records, and has worked with Bob Marley & The Wailers bassist, Aston Barrett, The Green, Katchafire, and Cas Haley. Heinrichs is currently supporting his most recent 2013 EP, High On Love, which debuted on the Top 20 Billboard Reggae Charts.
