After many recent line-up announcements, the summer festival season is once again looking strong for the Reggae-Rock genre. The California Roots Music and Arts Festival lineup is loaded with talent, and now the revelation of the complete Wakarusa lineup has Reggae-Rock fans across the nation planning trips to Arkansas’ Mulberry Mountain!
As 2014 gets going, many acts have been announcing their touring plans for the year. As these lists of dates are unveiled, many fans comb through all the scheduled stops, cross referencing the touring route with festival dates, looking for open weekends their beloved band may play their favorite festival.
Well, now is time many fans have all been waiting for! The time of the year when a bunch of highly anticipated summer music festivals finally announce their line-up. Being a live music super fan, there are several events The Pier is excited for this festival season, especially the 11th annual Wakarusa music festival.
Over the past few years, as more Reggae-Rock bands pop up on the scene, gaining larger and larger followings, the demand developed by fans of this genre cannot be ignored. Sets from Reggae-Rock acts have been slowly seeping into festival line-ups all over the US, but as far as major summer festival go, Wakarusa seems to to always book more of these bands then other festivals.
In 2012 fans at Wakarusa were treated to Slightly Stoopid, Matisyahu, G. Love and Special Sauce, Iration, and Tribal Seeds. Last year featured Dispatch, Snoop Lion, J Boog,The Green, Anuhea, and Jon Wayne and the Pain, 2 sets from Rebelution, and the return of SOJA.
Once again Wakarusa festival organizers do not disappoint, as 2014’s line up features an excellent sampling of Reggae-Rock-roots-acoustic acts. The weekend will include the return of The Green along with sets from Michael Franti & Spearhead, John Butler Trio, Xavier Rudd, Iration, Mike Love, Fortunate Youth, Indubious and multiple sets from Wheeland Brothers and Nahko & Medicine for the People.
Through out the four days, June 5th-8th, in all 99 bands appear on the 2014 Wakarusa bill, including multiple sets from headliners The String Cheese Incident, Umphrey’s McGee and STS9, as well as sets from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Bassnectar, and The Flaming Lips.
Sharing the 5 stages with the aforementioned headliners and Reggae-Rock acts will be many other acts performing music of various other genres. Looking quickly down the bill, Lettuce, The Werks, Moon Taxi, The Pimps of Joytime, The Revivalists, and Orgone are all talented-funky acts fans should be excited to hear. The festival also features an Interstellar Meltdown composed of a ton of the hottest electronic dance music.
