Washington DC’s Dale and the ZDubs release new single “Her Melody” featuring Hirie
Dale and the ZDubs featuring Hirie
Inspiration behind the song: Dale was incarcerated from 2017-2020 for a non-violent drug crime, during this time he decided it was time to write something that didn’t have to do with prison. It was time to write something light in a place that was so dark. The band put together the chords and the arrangement literally weeks after he got out because of how excited they were about the song. Speaking on the song Dale said:
“I would call up our drummer, Miles, on the prison line and sing him the hook. We knew the song was special and knew we wanted a female vocalist on it. But we needed the right one. We met Hirie in Virginia Beach, VA when we opened for her at Shakas live in 2015. This was before HIRIE had taken off like a rocket ship on the East Coast. Her voice, her band, her aesthetic, and her songs virtually hypnotized the 100 some-odd people inside of what used to be an epic smaller club in the heart of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront”
By the time Dale had gotten out of prison Hirie was in full bloom. The band ended up playing the same day as her at Reggae Riseup in Maryland 2022. Dale found HIRIE backstage right after she crushed her set. After congratulating her on a killer show he said verbatim,
“Yo Hirie, I got this hook, it NEEDS you on it!”
