The Expendables have returned with “Fix,” a new single released July 24 through Ineffable Records. The song is the California reggae-rock band’s first newly issued standalone single since the cycle surrounding its 2023 album, Pleasure Point.
For a group that has spent nearly three decades combining reggae, punk and surf-influenced rock, “Fix” is less an attempt at reinvention than a direct recommitment to the sound that has sustained its career. The Expendables have described themselves through those three intersecting traditions since forming in 1997.
That identity was also evident throughout Pleasure Point. The album moved between heavier guitar-driven material and more relaxed reggae passages, while its cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” became one of the project’s most visible tracks.
The new single arrives with a clear connection to the road. “Fix” provides the name for The Expendables’ Get My Fix Tour, a run of headline dates continuing into the fall. That sequencing reflects the way the band has historically developed its music. New material is not separated from its touring operation but introduced as an extension of the live show.
That relationship is especially important for The Expendables. Their catalog grew through repeated touring within punk, reggae-rock and alternative festival circuits, where the band could move from melodic reggae passages into distorted guitars without treating the transition as a novelty. Its audience was built around that consistency.
“Fix” consequently carries a different kind of weight than a comeback single. The Expendables have never truly disappeared from the road, and Pleasure Point is still a relatively recent entry in their catalog.
There is also a productive simplicity to the title. “Fix” can suggest a solution, an obsession or the need for another dose of something familiar. For a band whose fans return to hear a recognizable combination of reggae rhythm, punk energy and California surf culture, all three meanings are relevant.
The Expendables are not presenting longevity as nostalgia. Their continued relevance comes from understanding what listeners expect while finding new songs through which to deliver it. “Fix” keeps that balance intact and begins the next stage of the band’s catalog without disconnecting it from the foundation established over the previous 29 years.
