Enjoy the read on D.P.!
D.P., born Danny Perez of Gainesville, FL, pounded out his first piano melodies at the age of six, and hasn’t stopped since. Trained in blues and classical piano, D.P. uses his knowledge of music to create original works of art completely from scratch. His music is often straightforward and to-the-point, relying heavily on strong chord progressions and melodies. This self-classified genre, ‘piano-rap’, is a blend of traditional hip-hop with strong doses of pop and rock mixed throughout, all held together with sing-a-long choruses.
D.P. has just released Bar Tab Blues, a 17-track concept album and his first full-length official release. The album is an introspective trip through the life of a struggling musician, told through stories of 20-something youths navigating the world of failed relationships, drug-addiction, all-night parties and faded dreams.
D.P. has opened in support for Bone Thugs N Harmony, Goodie Mob, Dead Prez, Afroman and has also toured with The Supervillains as support throughout the state of Florida.
D.P. Has released an 11 track online-only album titled ‘American Scene’ which can be found on his official website. He’s currently in the studio working on D.P. and Friends, an online only release featuring collaborations with musicians, rappers and singers. Expect a follow up to Bar Tab Blues in the future as well.

Here’s what D.P. had to say when ThePier asked him the background to the song “Hollow”:
This song came about after a hard night of drinking and hanging out at a country/bluegrass show. Inspired by folk melodies and a whiskey hangover, I wrote this song about an hour after I woke up, about drinking problems and the cycle they create. I wanted the song to have an upbeat feel to it, almost celebratory, to contrast with the heavy subject matter that lies within. One of my favorite songs to play live for sure!
