In the waning light of mid-July, telcos buzz with one mantra: “Levitate.” The latest single from reggae fusion collective Bikini Trill, featuring Surfer Girl, is more than a sunlit earworm—it’s an invitation to float above the noise. The track, released July 18 via Ineffable Records, feels calibrated for the soundtrack of endless summer days, with a shimmering synth hook and weightless rhythm that carries you away
But there’s substance woven into the vibe. Bikini Trill describe “Levitate” as “about letting go and getting lost in the moment – where time feels like a made up thing and all you can do is exist, like a flower in the sun, just soaking it all in.” The band’s singer, Lauren Johnson (aka LJ), emerges on the chorus like a morning tide kissing the shore. Her melody is sun bleached and salty sweet, lifting the song into something more than a summer jam—it’s a moment of transcendence. And then there’s Surfer Girl who adds various states of euphoria along the way in the second verse.
Production leans into airy percussion and undulating bass, reminiscent of cross genre hits from Slightly Stoopid or Tropidelic—filaments of warmth and introspection interwoven into a danceable grooves. The result is a track that feels wide open: your windows down, stereo up, letting the breeze stream in.
“Levitate” doesn’t intend to reinvent the wheel—rather, it shows off Bikini Trill’s mastery of the art of chill, with a dash of soul search and a wink to nostalgia.
