Next Tuesday, Nov 4th we will premiere the next installment to The Pier’s Live Acoustic Series! We’re proud to announce that the next artist to be added to the series will be none other than Australia’s own John Butler Trio performing a live acoustic rendering of their song “Gonna Be A Long Time”.
We filmed John Butler Trio at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado on June 5th 2014 while the group cam ethrough on tour. The video was made possible by director, Tage Plantell and associate producer Kit Chalberg. Come by next Tuesday, Nov. 4th to view the video performance as well as additional info on the shoot!
John Butler Trio hails all the way from Fremantle, Australia and is the second international group we’ve recorded for the Live Acoustic Series, next to Jamaica’s Tarrus Riley. They’ve been around since 1998 and while labeled more as a rock band, the group incorporates influences that range from Bob Marley & Black Sabbath to Jimi Hendrix, Beastie Boys, Rage Against The Machine, G Love, & Public Enemy. I personally like to consider them a cool cross between The Beautiful Girls & Nahko.
Come back next Tuesday to watch the video premiere!
John Butler Trio Live Acoustic Series Premiere: Nov 4th 2014
The vision of the Pier’s “Live Acoustic Series” is to provide reggae-rock fans with an intimate, stripped down acoustic experience featuring the genre’s most recognizable bands, along with some new faces. The concept is simple. First, get the genre’s best talent to play an acoustic version of a new or unreleased song. Second, create a production concept that is visually appealing and recognizable. Third, record the band’s performing the song.
While the concept is simple, the execution is much more difficult. The Series required the coming together of a video director, crew, sound, venue, equipment, The Pier’s network, and, the bands—all with a common vision. Ultimately, this concept aims to produce quality music videos that are unmatched by any other outlet dedicated to covering reggae-rock. The series debuted on Nov. 12, 2012 with Cas Haley performing “Crazy Good Woman.” Since then the Series has featured some of rock-reggae’s premiere acts, including the Dirty Heads, The Green, Tarrus Riley and Iration.
