Dale and the ZDubs have released their new single “Heartbeats,” a romantic, soulful track featuring a guest appearance by singer-songwriter Emily Brimlow.
Across a buoyant acoustic guitar part, frontman Dale Rodman waxes poetic about love and romance. “Falling deep never made sense / We can blame it on the ocean / And when it all just slides by / I feel your heartbeat right on mine,” he croons in the opening verse, delivering earnest emotion.
Brimlow’s verse continues the heartfelt theme, as the songstress reflects on “wandering souls” who have somehow found each other.
The emotional high point of “Heartbeats” comes when Rodman and Brimlow share the tune’s uplifting chorus. The singers’ voices intertwine in perfect harmony, soaring together as they proclaim: “I’ve been running out of heartbeats this time / I been running out of songs in my mind / I been living for the sand in my shoe / Been waiting on a girl just like you / And if the world ends tonight / I’ll still be running out of heartbeats this time.”
“The chorus is special,” Rodman explained to The Pier. “I always say we’re storytellers, this song encapsulates that.” Though the singer admitted it’s difficult to write a love song “that’s not trite of overdone,” “Heartbeats” manages to be personal and honest without ever feeling cheesy.

The new single continues what has been an active summer for the band, which has already included performances at the Point Break and Everwild festivals. Meanwhile, Brimlow has also been busy. The singer released her latest album Flower Child last month, featuring collaborations with The Elovaters, Rising Appalachia, and Kim Churchill.
