Derek Sanders “THE HEAVY BOX” review

MAYDAY PARADE’S DEREK SANDERS RELEASES “THE HEAVY BOX” VIA RISE RECORDS

True to the core, Derek Sanders has created an original sound all his own.
“The Heavy Box” one of the most beautiful collections of tracks that must be experienced by all. The vibe is reminiscent of Dashboard Confessional but staying true to his own sound.
The Heavy Box features five original tracks penned by Sanders and includes features from Mike Hanson of local Tallahassee band Goodbye Love and Jason Lancaster, former Mayday Parade co-frontman.

The five track collective kicks off with “Home”, a somber and raw journey through the notion of love and loss. Blends of piano and acoustics, it’s a mellow vibe but intends to open our emotions. The truthfulness of this album can cut through the heart, but it tells the story of all our lives. “For Dear Life”, is a dark but true depiction of how we wall ourselves against life’s pain and how letting go can be the hardest thing. An emotional look-back on broken relationships, very relatable to all of us. Expressed by Sanders about working with Lancaster on this track,

“It was a pleasure and an honor to be able to work with Jason again for the first time in over 16 years. It’s amazing to me how quickly and easily we were able to pick back up right where we left off and create something meaningful to both of us.”

“Howell Canon”, moves with faster beats blended with more acoustics but the lyrical content provides a picturesque landscape of human emotion. Our existence depends on relationships but it’s the nature of evolving and allowing us to see the truth.
Derek Sander’s brave poetic perspective has resulted in him creating a gutsy album.
I highly recommend this collection to be absorbed and enjoyed by all!
