Easy Star Records continues to fill the gap between America & Europe reggae by signing such artists from across the pond as Backbeat Soundsystem and The Skints. Now added to that roster is the Gentleman’s Dub Club, an 8-piece reggae-dub group out based out of London, England.
In addition to the The Skints and Backbeat Sound System based out of the UK, the Gentleman’s Dub Club joins a label that also includes a roster of US groups such as: Easy Star All-Stars, The Black Seeds, John Brown’s Body, The Green, Cas Haley, Passafire, New Kingston, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, The Expanders and Rebelution with their latest release Count Me In.
Gentleman’s Dub Club will make their signing official when they release their new album The Big Smoke on November 13th, 2015. This will be the groups second album since forming in 2006 and it will be their first with Easy Star Records.
The groups debut album, FOURtyFOUR, dropped in 2013 on Rankin Records. Since then, the group has entered the studio for the sophomore release on a record that includes guest appearances by vocalist/writer Natty on the song “One Night Only” and tenor sax star Josh Arcoleo.
GDC came to the US over the summer, but with a new album with their new US based independent record label in Easy Star Records, we hope to see the group return in 2016 for a tour to further support The Big Smoke.
It’s my guess that Easy Star is working behind scenes to set up a show trade between a band on their roster in the US and one of the 3 in the UK. This year, Passafire went on an extensive tour through Europe playing alongside their label mates Backbeat SoundSystem who are now coming to the US this fall on a tour with Passafire. I expect more of this cross promotional awareness and fully support this endeavor as it’s exposing us to some amazing Reggae music out of the UK. Thank you Easy Star Records!
While The Big Smoke comes out November 13, pre-orders for digital and physical (including on vinyl) will launch September 25 and we’ll update this article with more info on that as it comes. The Gents just finished shooting a music video for “Bad Girl,” which will premiere in October close to the band’s upcoming tour.
Stay tuned for more updates as they’re made available to us and discover new music in the Gentleman’s Dub Club!
